Vanessa Da Silva

B.Sc. in Behavioural Neuroscience and minor in Speech Sciences, 3rd year, UBC | Research Assistant

Vanessa is a 3rd-year B.Sc. student majoring in Behavioural Neuroscience and minoring in Speech Sciences at the University of British Columbia. Vanessa is passionate about understanding the underlying neural mechanisms of child development, especially children’s language development, such that we can work to mediate abnormalities safely and sustainably. She is excited to begin working on the RAD EEG project, which utilizes electroencephalogram (EEG) to investigate whether early word learning shapes infants’ discrimination of the speech sounds used in their native languages. Previously, Vanessa worked as a summer camp leader and supervisor and has contributed to her local community through her work as a children’s small group teacher. In her free time, Vanessa loves getting outside, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends
