Online Study: Voice Recognition in Children with CIs

Does your child have a cochlear implant? Sign-up here to participate in our voice recognition study with your child!

The Infant Studies Centre, directed by Dr. Janet Werker, is a research centre in the UBC Department of Psychology. We study how babies perceive speech and acquire language within the first few years of life, including children growing-up with cochlear implants.

Participation would involve:

– Attending a one-time, 1-hour Zoom session, booked in advance with our researcher,
– Answering some questions about your child’s language and hearing abilities,
– Receiving an honourary UBC degree certificate (your child’s ‘Bachelor’s in Infant Science!) and a $10 Amazon gift card as a thank you!

To be eligible for our study, your child must:

– Have at least one cochlear implant,
– Received their implant at or before 3 years old,
– Have at least 6 months of experience with a CI,
– Currently be between 3 and 6 years old (i.e., be at least 3 years old but no older than 5 years, 11 months and 31 days),
– Be hearing some (>25%) English in their every-day life.

Not sure you are eligible? Have other questions? Please don’t hesitate to email us at infants@psych.ubc.ca.

Thank you so much for your interest in our research – our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of families like yours.
