Online Studies: How do Babies Learn Language?

Sign-up here to participate in a virtual language study with your child!

The Infant Studies Centre, directed by Dr. Janet Werker, is a research centre in the UBC Department of Psychology.  We study how babies perceive speech and acquire language within the first few years of life, including those growing-up bilingual.

Given the realities of the global pandemic, we have begun to run several of our studies online via the Lookit platform (https://lookit.mit.edu/).  Lookit is securely hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and offers parents an easy way to participate in research with their children from home!

Below, you can read about our current studies and opt to receive a link to participate.  You may also sign-up to join our participant database, so that we may let you know each time your child is eligible to participate in a new study!

Thank you so much for your interest in our research – our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of families like yours.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at infants@psych.ubc.ca.
